Winnie Mandela
Winnie Mandela
The shield of hope for us women
The black bird that stood firm on
thorny branches enduring the pain
The silver lining on the dark cloud of
chauvinism and yes I mean an inspiration
'IHAWU LOKUZIPHUNGELA!'
Resilience was her motto,
Determination her push factor
Independence her own goal
Standing firm on a world which pressed
down women elevating males..'IMBOKODO!'
The voice of thunder sending old men away
gnashing their teeth and their knees trembling in fear
The gourd of wisdom, if you sat next to her you could
quench your thirst for knowledge.
The flower that bloomed even in stormy weathers
I stand firm with confidence to share that
'no shadow intimidated her'
A well of courage where we all draw water
the water of confidence and resilience .
My people a heroine has moved to the next life
'INDLOVUKAZI IKHOTHEME!'
Leaving us with words of encouragement
memories to keep us going, a light in our quest for freedom
not just freedom but women s rights too
'BAKWETHU INTABA ENKULU IBHIDLIKILE!'
then we will bow our heads crying....
The shield of hope for us women
The black bird that stood firm on
thorny branches enduring the pain
The silver lining on the dark cloud of
chauvinism and yes I mean an inspiration
'IHAWU LOKUZIPHUNGELA!'
